High Precision Automatic Spectrometer-Goniometer
The SpectroMaster® family of instruments has been derived from the renowned TRIOPTICS PrismMaster® series of ultra-accurate prism goniometers and is specifically designed for prism refractometry with highest precision.
The measurement principle is based on the minimum deviation method, originally published by Joseph von Fraunhofer almost 200 years ago and still regarded as the most accurate method and capable to measure the refractive index up to the sixth decimal place. It is therefore the standard method employed by most national metrology institutes e.g. the Physikalisch-Technische Bundesanstalt (PTB) in Braunschweig, Germany.
The core of SpectroMaster® is an ultra-high precision goniometer table, which is used for measuring the prism angle and the deviation angle of refracted light passing through a prism manufactured from the optical material under test. The large spectral range of the high-end SpectroMaster® models is obtained by the complete use of mirror optics. For a more limited visible spectral range, models with refractive optics are available, too.
